Custom design of business cards, flyers, invoices, and other key items isn’t right for every business, especially those that are on a tight budget or trying to stay as lean as possible. If your company is in a similar situation, you may just try and throw something together using Apple’s Pages or look for predesigned templates. (If you’re a strict PC user, by all means you can do the same in Word. We won’t bother you with our pitch.) The only problem is professional looking templates can sometimes be difficult to find, and when launching a business, the last thing you want is a sloppy brochure. Trust us, we were once a startup.

Therefore, you might want to take a look at our latest release, Business Mix Set. We created it as a response to never-ending requests for more proposals, invoices, newsletters, planners, and other stuff for serious people. The result is a collection of 100 exquisitely designed documents that will unfailingly represent your business and, in fact, even help you run it. For that, we’ve included the Project Planning Forms category with templates such as Statement of Work, Project Status Report, and Roles and Responsibilities Matrix.

Business Mix Set contains ten templates categories in total, such as Forms & Envelopes, Brochures, and Cards & Invitations. Most of the categories match the ones included in our earlier Inspiration Set, which means you can save all Jumsoft’s newsletters or business cards to be displayed together, regardless of the package they originally belonged to.

Some of the 100 templates included in Business Mix Set contain multiple sections, so, you get over 200 layouts to meet your specific needs. Single-page templates, such as Invoice, Flyer, and Job Description, are for your basic documents, and the several multi-layout templates are perfect for brochures and other publications, from a 2-layout Invitation to a Newsletter with as many as 8 layouts.

Each object in the templates can be effortlessly recolored, reshaped, moved, or removed. Type or paste your own text, add and remove text boxes, and change the font if you wish. Drag your photos or pictures onto documents to replace the stock images. There are no boundaries to your creativity!

You can preview Business Mix Set here and grab your own copy here. Forget the days when billing statements looked boring!

After releasing Money for iPad and updating Money for iPhone, we received a number of sync issue reports from our users. Some of those issues are caused by bugs, which we are fixing at the moment, and quite a few of them are actually network-related. If your Money for Mac cannot find your iDevice on a Wi-Fi network or if sync will not start, you can try solving these problems with the help of a few of the tips provided in this post.

Bonjour

To discover syncable applications on a local area network, we use Apple’s Bonjour technology. On some networks, it may be disabled or not working properly. To find out whether Bonjour is working on your network, you should try these options:

Find out whether other Mac or iDevice applications using Bonjour also have problems on your network. On Mac, these include the iTunes music sharing feature, iPhoto photo sharing, and iChat. On iDevices, you can try the free iTunes Remote application.

One more way to test this is to download and install Bonjour Browser (free download). Launch Bonjour Browser and see if you can find an entry named “_iphonemoney2._tcp.” or “_ipadmoney._tcp.” If you cannot see this entry in Bonjour Browser while Money is running on the iDevice connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac, you have a network problem.

If your network does not support Bonjour, you will need to contact your network administrator.

Firewalls

If you are using the Mac OS X Lion firewall, it may be blocking a process that is required for sync. To check whether your firewall is switched on, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall. If the firewall is switched off, you will have to look for the sync problem elsewhere. If it is switched on, you should make a correction in the access list to unblock the required process following these steps:

In the Firewall settings, select Advanced. To do that, you may first need to click the lock symbol at the bottom of the window.

Click the + button below the access list. A sheet with a file choosing dialog appears.

Open a new Finder window and select Go > Go to Folder. When the Go to Folder window appears, enter the following path: /usr/sbin

Find a file called “mDNSResponder” in the Finder window and just drag it onto the previously opened dialog sheet.

Click the Add button.

Select “Allow incoming connections” next to the mDNSResponder entry in the access list.

Little Snitch

You may be using the Little Snitch application to block certain network traffic. If you have Little Snitch installed and simply approve Money in its access list, it will only allow automatic checks for updates, but not the network connection between your Mac and iPhone. You will need to make sure connections are allowed for All Applications > Bonjour and for mDNSResponder specifically.

Different subnets

Your iDevice and your Mac may also be on different subnets of the same network. In that case, sync would not work. This is unlikely in private networks but could be the case with large company networks.

Router

Sometimes, you simply need to restart your router. Also, make sure your router has all latest updates installed.

Computer-to-Computer Network

If the abovementioned measures fail, you can try creating an ad hoc computer-to-computer network and connect your iDevice to it:

On your Mac, click on the AirPort icon in upper right-hand side of the menu bar.

Select Create Network and enter a network name. Choose a channel, a security mode, and a password.

Connect your iDevice to this network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on the iDevice, select the network, and enter the password you selected.

Start Money both on your iDevice and Mac and follow the standard syncing instructions.

Well, this one really took a bit too long. If something is to blame, it’s probably our over-inflated optimism about iCloud functionalities. Of course, the iCloud storage will definitely be added with a later update, but for now, let’s focus on what we have in the officially released first version of Money for iPad.

In case you are not familiar with the desktop version of Money, it allows you to create different types of accounts for your cash, bank accounts, credit cards, etc., and to keep track of all transactions to, from, and among them. The Budget feature helps you stick to your carefully planned budget, while the Scheduler section reminds you of amounts due to be paid. Money also provides a report capability, so you can get a good idea of what you spent yesterday, last month, or last year.

In Money for iPad, we tried to both emulate the general feel of the desktop version and take advantage of the hands-on functionalities of the iPad. The app includes the familiar layout with all major tools displayed on the left and the Add Item sheet that appears on the right when you need it. The balances of all accounts are displayed next to their names, and the total net worth is shown below.

You can create multiple budgets, scheduled transactions, and reports with just a few taps on the screen. A custom keyboard pops out each time you need to enter new information. If you have to remove an entry, you just need to swipe along its line.

Naturally, you can synchronize Money on your iPad with the version on your Mac. As with the iPhone version, you will need to connect both your Mac and your iPad to a single Wi-Fi network to do that. To maximize security, Money for iPad also features the ability to set a passcode.

To run Money on your iPad, you need iOS 5.0 or later version, which can be downloaded from iTunes.

Some of you have already inquired if Money for iPad supports the retina display. So far it does not, but we’re already preparing the first update with the retina support as well as a few sync glitches and minor crashes ironed out. So once again, stay tuned!

Last week we made a commitment to tell you more about the new versions of Money for Mac and iPhone. We’re not ones to break a promise,* so here is the full account of the changes that you are going to find in the updated Money apps.

First of all, the updated apps for Mac and iPhone are now available for download from the Mac App Store and iTunes App Store respectively! If you haven’t purchased the earlier versions, Money for Mac costs $38.99, and Money for iPhone is priced at $1.99. If you’re already a proud owner of one or both of these apps, you’ll get the updates for free.

Now let’s get down to the important things. The most obvious change in Money for Mac is the multiple budget capability, which we brought back by popular demand. You’ll be able to create any number of budgets for your personal or business needs and select six available budgeting periods, including a one-off budget for a wedding, a house renovation, or some other special undertaking. Each budget item will also have several frequency options that allow for more flexibility. When entering new budget items, you’ll be able to use the same lightning button that makes adding transactions much faster.

New features also include the option to enter new transactions based on payees, rather than the traditional approach of category-based transactions. Net worth reports will now include bar charts. The starting balances of each account have their own lines, where they are listed as non-editable transactions that do not interfere with your reports and budgets. Also, you’ll be able to see the reconciled balances of each account at the bottom of their respective windows.

Last but not least, we have fixed several issues that relate to data importing, report loading and printing, transfer duplication, syncing, and crash reporting. We’ve also addressed the usual minor bugs that you might not have even noticed (but were the cause for an occasional nightmare for at least one of your fellow Money users). We did our best to get rid of those pesky scamps.

Meanwhile, the developers of Money for iPhone had lots of fun battling a wide variety of crashes. Yes, it is true that it was not the best version of an app that we’ve ever released, but now it’s much, much better and far less buggy. First of all, it has the same expanded budget capability as its desktop counterpart. It has transaction labels. It has a proper, fully functional search capability. It has a working passcode feature. Besides, it does not crash when adding a transaction or sorting accounts, deleting reports, paying scheduled transactions, et cetera, ad infinitum or, you might even say, ad nauseam. Frankly, we are quite proud of the end result!

Let’s part ways with another promise: Soon we’ll be back to tell more about the brand-new Money for iPad!

*Admittedly, we’re prone to fulfilling our promises a little late (which is marginally better than never!).

That’s it: Money for iPad has been submitted to the App Store for Apple’s approval and is likely to be available for purchase as soon as this week! Until then, here’s a sneak-peek kit for you to see what all the fuss is about:

The screenshots above show an account with multiple transactions and a monthly budget (you’ll be able to create weekly, annual, and other sorts of budgets too). Below you can see lists of scheduled transactions and reports. The small report labels display summaries of their contents, which you can disclose in full by tapping on oe of the labels.
