Money 3.4: Sync with iPhone and More for Your Delight
In case you have some suspicious thoughts crawling in the back of your head, we haven’t forgotten we have Money for iPhone to release. Actually, we have been pretty busy in this department and prepared a new version of the desktop version of Money for distraction while we are all waiting for the approval from Apple.
So here comes Money 3.4: the straightforward, useful, and elegant application you all came to love plus the iPhone sync capability, improvements in backup reversion, localizations, and interface, and expanded user guides to make your Money experience even smoother.
Money has been around for six years now and has gone through a series of spectacular changes since its first release. With its latest version, you can track transactions to and from your wallet, bank accounts, or share trading accounts; make budget plans and compare them with the actual outcome; manage bills and invoices; generate reports of your income and expenses; and more little features that make your finance management easier. No, it definitely shouldn’t take so long. So, you were able to connect iPhone version with Money (by entering sync code), right? Did you click “Sync” button in Money? And what happened next – did spinning progress indicator appear in iPhone version?

I’ve tried it three times now and it does the same thing. Both Mac and iPhone on the same wifi network as well.

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t link my iPhone to the computer.
The 4-digit code appears on my iPhone, I type it in the desktop version, and then nothing happens :-/

I Enter the 4 digits and nothing happens, no Sync- Button. But the App Looks great on the iPhone and im using Money on my mac for several Years now and love it ! Im sure the will be a fix soon. Looking foreward to it!
Thanks Jumsoft for giving us this great app, it has worked perfectly for me and looks great on my home screen. Here are some ideas for new features in case you have not already thought of them: notes field in accounts/transactions, search bar for transactions, click or some audio feedback when typing. Anyway, keep up the good work!

My iMac (intel) syncs perfectly first time every-time with my 3G, but I download Money and the same app to my wifes PPC G5 and I’m getting the same problem with her iPhone 3G.
She can enter the code and nothing happens, no sync box or anything,
I can sync to her phone using MY Mac, but not hers.
Just curious, but the people getting the problems, are you running Leopard 10.5.8 on a PPC?

Yes, unfortunately the current Money for iPhone version has problems syncing to powerpc computers. An update with the fix will be submitted to Apple this week.
The same problem here (MacBook Air). I can see a four-digit code and enter it and nothing happens. No “sync” button.
I have Money 3.4.2 and Money on my 3G iPhone (downloaded today, September 4th) – same problem as some of the entries above – no Sync button on the iMac version – type in the 4 digit code, then nothing happens, and nowhere to go.
If you are on powerpc computer, then this will be fixed in 1.0.1 version that should be submitted to Apple soon.
I’m all excited to use my new version of Money for iPhone, but it still won’t sync with my Money 3.4.2 on my Powerbook G4. I know you mentioned that this bug will be fixed, but when will the update be arriving?
It is already submitted to Apple. I cannot tell exactly when, as it is depends not on us now.
But we hope that the update will be approved faster than original version, so hopefully it will appear in App Store in the beginning of the next week.

It’s been more than two weeks since you said the iPhone app would be updated, fixing the PowerPC bug. When will the phone app version 1.0.1 be downloadable?
Unfortunately Apple found some problems with the update and we had to re-submit it.
It still might take a week or so. Sorry for keeping you waiting..
Syncing works fine for me! (OSX 10.6)
I downloaded the iPhone app update (1.1) this evening, but syncing still won’t work. My iPhone won’t come up as a device on the listbar, so there’s no way to initiate syncing- a different problem from before. I’m using OS10.5.8 and Money 3.4.2.
I’m having the same problem as listed above. Ipod touch no longer shows up in money. Must be an issue with money “seeing” the new ipod version. Hope you can find a fix soon.
Yes, Jumsoft Money for iPhone requires the newest – 3.4.3 – desktop Money version that was released today.
Hey, I just wanted to say that i am pumped about the new release of money for iphone 1.1 because i had mentioned earlier that i use the comment field in money on my mac all the time and really was hoping for it to be added to the iphone version. So thank you for doing that.
The problem ( or glitch) i have found is that the comment fields do not sync. if you make a comment on a transaction on the mac it stays on the mac, and if you make transaction comment on the iphone version it stays on the iphone version. Don’t know if anyone else has noticed this or if I’m doing something wrong. Any help would be great. Again, love your program. Use it every day.

Yes, there is a little bug in the released version. Please download this version ( http://martynas.jumsoft.com/testversions/Money343_1922.zip ). It is a bit newer than officially released 3.4.3 version and it has syncing comments bug fixed. Extract this downloaded archive and replace Money that you were using before with this newly downloaded version. Launch it and from now comments should be synced.
Official update (3.4.4) will be released likely next week after some more fixes/improvements will be done.
Kudos on a great iPhone app! However, I’m having a problem with syncing. I usually sync about once per week with no problems, but today after clicking Sync on the desktop app, the spinning syncing screen appeared on my device and just sat there for over 30 minutes. I had to quit to do other things and tried it again later, and still syncing was taking over 30 minutes, but never finished. I’m using 3.4.3 (v1921) on the desktop and version 1.1 of the iPhone App.
Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I used the updated version of Money (3.4.3) and the newest version of the app (1.1) and my problem (same as above; Oct. 8th) wasn’t resolved. The iPhone isn’t being ’seen’ and so it doesn’t even show up on the listbar. I hope the app update addresses this problem.

are you sure that both versions are on the same wi-fi? Thats the only problem I can think of right now why desktop Money couldnt see your device.
I have the same issue as many above. Both devices on the same wifi (Laptop and iPhone) iPhone never shows up as device in sidebar of Money.
It would be really nice if there was a way to initiate the connection. I’ve tried turning off then on wifi on both devices. Restarted Money on both devices and nothing seems to work. Using the latest updates on both devices.
Would also be nice if I could just set Money on my iPhone to look to my MobileMe backup to acquire it’s data as opposed to syncing via wifi which seems troublesome. I realize not everyone has a MobileMe account, but would be nice as an option in settings.

If you updated Jumsoft Money for iPhone to 1.1.1 version, please update desktop version to 3.4.4 that was released a couple of minutes ago
mobileMe sync added to the users wish list.
Had the same syncing issues. I upgraded to 3.4.4 first and my iPhone never informed me of the update. Fixed it in iTunes and synced and no problems! Thanks, guys.

unfortunatelly i have the same issue as many users listed above. I have the latest version of Money downloaded from the official site and iPhone’s app dowloaded from AppStore. The bouth devices are connected to the same WiFi network, iPhone is listed in the desktop application, but nothing happened after numbers dialed…

I have the same problem as some of the other people here. I can’t get the iPhone to show up in the desktop version when I enter the sync mode in the iPhone app.
I have the latest versions of both apps (iPhone app v1.2 / desktop app v3.4.8 2053).
I am running Snow Leopard v10.6.2 build 10C540 on an Intel iMac.

Firstly, are both devices – iPhone and computer in the same wi-fi network? Thats the main requirement in order Money for iPhone and for Mac versions could see each other.
Another cause of this problem might be some wi-fi network restrictions. There were users that couldn’t sync at work wi-fi, but had no problem when syncing at home.
Did you experience this problem right from the beginning or were you able to sync your data in the past?

Syncing works now. The problem was that the iPhone was connected to the Airport Express’s Guest Network while the iMac was connected to the “real” network.

hey, i have mac os 10.6.1 and money 3.4.8 v(2053)
and iphone app money v 1.2
I have the iPhone USB cable plugged into my computer and i DONT have a wireless network at home.
I have to have WIFI switched ON on my iPhone to allow the money apps to Sync. If my iPhones WIFI isnt ON my iPhone wont show up in Devices on the mac money app.

The main requirement in order Money for iPhone and Mac versions could see each other is wi-fi network. Or do you mean you are able to sync even if Mac version is not connected to the same wi-fi?
If there is no wi-fi network at home, you can create computer to computer network. (To do that click on the Airport icon and choose “Create Network…”). Then in your iPhone wi-fi settings you will be able to connect to this newly created network and sync your data.

Are you using the latest Money for iPhone (1.2) and Money for Mac (3.4.9) versions? Have you tried restarting both iPhone and Mac? Does still the same problem appear?
If Money for iPhone crashes, can you send me crash log? (iPhone applications crash logs are stored in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ and I need the ones that contains Money in their name).
Also can you check console log (Applications/Utilities/Console.app) for any lines containing the word “Money”. If there are any please send them to info@jumsoft.com
Im having an issue syncing between money and my iphone. I have punched in the 4 digit code and when I sync, the wheel on my mac and on the iPhone just spin. it has been spinning for 15 min. any help would be appreciated.

Having problems when I sync Money to my iPhone 3GS. On the desktop version, some of my transactions get set to “zero” and “split”, and they can’t be changed. I have removed and reinstalled the iPhone app several times, and can duplicate the problem each time. Luckily I have been able to restore my desktop data from a backup. Help, this program is exactly what I need and I am a paying customer! Thanks
I am having problems syncing with my iphone. Both the computer and the phone version have been spinning for over 30 mins. I am using the demo version I downloaded this Monday…trying to decide if I want to buy and the sync is the only thing holding me back. Please help! I have 12000 transactions…would that make it slow?

I am having problems with syncing. Records entered into the iphone do not show up on the mac version. THese are all entered into the cash account. Using the trial version at the moment and waiting on a solution to this before I purchase!

I am trying to sync with iPhone. Ipod Touch and IPad sync fine. I phone starts sync then just sits there with spinner for ever. Seems every time I try to sync all of a sudden the iPhone looses wifi connection. I don’t loose wifi with anything else. I cannot do anything else until I quit money on my Mac and iPhone and restart them again and no info is synced. I am running iOS 4.0.1
Wifi issue is fixed. I am not able to sync still. I am using the most recent version of Money on both Mac and iPhone. Same version on iPod touch and iPad works fine. Only difference is iOS 4.0.1 on phone. Any ideas how to fix or is it a known issue that is being worked on. Was going to switch to Money but I need syncing to be stable.

Here how sync should normally work:
1. Switch both your Mac and your iPhone into Wi-Fi mode.
2. On your iPhone, go to the Settings panel.
3. Select Sync > Set New Library. A four-digit code will appear on the screen.
4. On your desktop version of Money, click on the name of your iPhone in the Devices group that will have appeared in the Listbar.
5. Type in the iPhone Library code in the blank field that appears.
6. Once the link between the two devices has been established, select Sync on your desktop version of Money to transfer data to your iPhone.
I need more info to locate the problem. So, firstly, which one of these steps fails? Are both – iPhone and Mac in the same wi-fi network?

I bought the Mac for Money And I love the program. I think that changed my life. Already installed on my computer and various personal information, the beginning of this year. Once more – as I mentioned earlier no fields for entering 4-digits code should appear in iTunes – they appear in Money for Mac version. When you connect both – iPhone and Mac to the same wi-fi network and choose “Set Library” in Money for iPhone version then you will see your iPhone’s name appearing on the left sidebar in Money for Mac version. When you click on it you will see 4 fields in Money for Mac main window where you should enter the sync code from iPhone version.
Let me know if you are still having problems with this.
Sorry, now I could do. I was looking for the icon in itunes. I made the perfect sync. Now my life is complete. I hope you continue improving this wonderful program.

In the images to determine the category, only pictures we have already determined. Could have an option for us to place an image you want.

Your program has sync issues. I still have not been able to complete syncs consistently and when they fail and another of my devices syncs transactions I entered disappear. Making for a lot of work to reconcile again. I will me going back to quicken and mint. I spent days and tried 3 different routers now to make sure it was not a network issue.

Can you give more info:
- With how many devices are you syncing Money data?
- What are these devices (iPhone, iPad) and what iPhone OS versions are you using.
- Do you have sync problems with all devices?
- Do you have bluetooth enabled? Enabled bluetooth sometimes might cause syncing via wi-fi problems, because bluetooth and wi-fi uses the same antenna.
Recently I ran into the same sporadic problems with sync. Transactions have been lost. It’s quite unpleasant and annoying:(
Only one sync pair: 10.6.4 with Money 3.6.4 (v2466) and iPhone 3GS with Jumsoft Money 1.3.3. Bluetooth is shut down. Sync via Wi-Fi.

If I understood you right – everything worked well earlier, but recently one sync caused problems. Can you give some more info – what were your last steps before this problem appeared – have you modified your data file somehow – by restoring from backup or manually replacing your current data file in the Money data folder? Did Money crash before the problematic sync? Also, can you check console log (Applications/Utilities/Console.app) and send us the latest lines containing the word “money” (info@jumsoft.com)
Hey thanks this is great. I have just one suggestion/feature request.
Would it be possible for Money to sync on multiple phones/ipods? My wife and I use Money to track our spending and currently if she and I enter different transactions on our respective ipods the mac based program updates with both info, but not our ipods. The items my wife inputs on her ipod never makes it from the desktop app back to mine.

If you make changes on both iPhones, to get complete changes on both iPhones, you will have to make 3 sync processes:
1) sync your 1st iPhone with the desktop version. After that desktop will have changes from the 1st iPhone and 1st iPhone will have changes made on the desktop version
2) sync your 2nd iPhone with the desktop version. After that 2nd iPhone and desktop versions will have complete changes of all 3 versions
3) sync your 1st iPhone with the desktop again – to get changes, that were synced with desktop version on the 2nd sync, from the 2nd iPhone to the 1st one.
If you done that, but it still didn’t work, then can you check console log (Applications/Utilities/Console.app) for any lines containing the word “money” and send them to us (info@jumsoft.com)
After apparently correct synch, transactions from 2009 iPod Touch 64Gb are not being reflected accurately in the desktop version. Some transactions are visible but come over without a category. It’s impossible to correct the category field in desktop version (shows “null” and won’t accept changes made).
Deleting a transaction and resynching with iPod doesn’t replace it; it’s still present on the iPod but no longer appears in desktop version.
Both apps latest versions (3.6.5 and 1.3.4)

Sorry for the inconveniences.
If something unexpected happens during the last sync you can always restore your Mac and/or iPhone versions data using the “Restore” button (next to the “Sync” in Money main window).
It seems that Sync Services, that Money uses for syncing got corrupted, so once you have correct data on Mac version I suggest fresh sync – deleting iPhone versions data and re-syncing freshly with the Mac version. If you are willing to do that, here are steps:
- delete Jumsoft Money from iPhone and re-download it from App Store (you will lose current Money data in iPhone as mentioned above, you will see empty data file).
- make sure desktop Money is not running, go to ~/Library/Application Support/Jumsoft/Money/ folder and delete these files/folders:
“iPhone” folder and com.jumsoft.money3.fastsyncstore file. Also launch this application (http://martynas.jumsoft.com/testversions/RemoveMoneySync.zip) to remove Sync history.
- launch Money and re-sync iPhone and desktop versions and your data from the desktop version will be sent to iPhone.
Let me know if you are still having problems with this.
Hi, for some reason loans do not sync to iPad or iphone’s is this the correct behaviour? I only see ‘normal’ accounts on the iPad and iPhone but none of the loans I have on the laptop version.

Money for iPhone is a “lighter” Money version and loan accounts are not synced.
I have up to date versions of Money for my MacBook and Iphone 4.
It has synced once, after I had the up to date versions, and that is it.
I was seeing the sync button on the Mac but it did nothing.
Today I don’t see the phone recognized – WiFi is on for both and they are on the same network. I’ve tried it with the iPhone hard wired to the Mac and not.
I’ve tried it in various combinations:
Mac on first with Money running then fire up the iPhone and select Money there;
Mac on first, fire up iPhone, Money on Mac then Money on iPhone
iPhone on but not Money, fire up Mac;
iPhone on, Money on, fire up Mac.

I have problem with the sync in V. 3.6.5 (v2510)… with i open the App in the Mac, appears the next message:
You can not sync your Money data.

I have Money 3.6.5 and Money on my iPhone 4 (downloaded today, November 26th), and have the same problem as some of the earlier entries above – no Sync button on the iMac version – type in the 4 digit code, then nothing happens, and nowhere to go.
I’m having the same problem as Ticino above. I did a sync today with the latest versions of Money on the iPhone and mac. I see that a large proportion of transactions don’t have any category, subcategory or account assigned on the mac. All transactions were created on the iPhone and synced to my mac. Ie, all transactions are 100% correct on the iPhone, but seemingly not syncing a lot of the data to the mac. I would greatly appreciate a solution to this problem. I wonder if I should delete the data in the Mac version and sync again?

i just bought Money 3 on the App Store today. Syncing with my iphone was a major reason I chose Money.
Unfortunately, I can’t get it to sync. There is no ‘Sync’ button that I can find. My phone shows up in the devices list. I can enter the 4 digit number, but nothing happens and I see no ‘Sync’ button.

The same here. I’ve bought Money 3 from App Store and downloaded iPhone version to keep both in sync, but when I access “Devices” and enter the four digits from Settings > Sync > Set Library, but after entering the 4 digits, I don’t see any “Sync” button.
I bought the application mainly for the iPhone – Mac sync feature… could you please help us with this problem?

If nothing happens in Mac version when you enter these 4 digits sync code from iPhone, and both – Mac and iPhone are in the same wi-fi network, it seems that something is preventing communication between Mac and iPhone. This could be your firewall or router that is blocking it.
I keep trying Money every so often to see if things have improved. It is a very nice piece of software, but one thing keeps me from switching from MoneyDance… editing. Specifically for Accounts and Loans. Why, after I make an account banking can I not change it to a Loan account? And why after I add a loan to a Loan Account can I not edit the loan? It makes no sense. I basically have to start from scratch if I made 1 tiny mistake entering the wrong APR in the loan. You guys need to change that and allow us to be able to edit everything. Til then, MoneyDance will reign supreme.

I also buied Money3 from the new MacStore, and I love it! The sync is working but it take a long time and you didn’t any respond from the app about the progress.
So could you please improve Sync Time and build in a Progress Bar to estimate how long the sync is taking place?

Same problem for me. Bought from Mac store and will not sync to my Iphone or Ipad. I am using a TC route and don’t have a firewall configured.
Can see the Bonjour service published on port 49256 from my iphone so there is no communications issue. I have also tested on a different wifi network with the same result.
Have tried to remove and re-install the sync service but the sync history delete program listed above does not seem to work on the Mac store version of the application.
Have also tested the normal (non mac store) version and that too has the same syn issue.
Still waiting for a response from support.

Hi guys, just changed from ibank to money 3 because was having sync iss ues with ibank.
Set up money3 and the first couple of times sync worked well, then started to play up. You try and sync and the little wheel on the iphone just continues and does not stop. It does not ever transfer some details put into it. i added a regular bill payment and it just does not seem to transfer it over in either direction.
I am running MAc OS X 10.6.6 on a mack book and iphone is running the most up to date soft wear along with money v1.3.4
come on guys can you get this fixed I downloaded money3 from the new app store and if it does not sync between 2 devices and what is the use…….
To everyone having sync issues. Please add a relevant comment and rating on the new app store. This is the only way to get this company to listen.

All the above problems would be solved via a cloud sync solution.
Instead of pushing for updates/patches, get them to implement Dropbox syncing (I am a developer, and plugging into the Dropbox API requires around 4 lines of code).
This means everything would be synced in the background to all your devices without you having to initiate anything.
If they would do this, they would rake in the money.
As Kevin says … what is the use for the Money app (and the money invested) if it does not sync the two devices. I was about to switch from EasyBooks because that app has not a mac version. Now I hesitate as Money does not sync. The application ’sees’ the iPhone device. Has synced once. SInce then no way. Quite frustrating.
i give Money3 desktop a try just before i buy it. i like the app much but i could not achive to sync between my macbookpro and ipad even both macs are in the same wireless network… Now should i search for another app or is there a final solution. (cloud sync rules by the way. its the future of all apps. please do it)

Is Money 4 even released or is it still beta? If not why release an iPhone update that can no longer sync with the current Money 3. Don’t you think that makes it a full waste of money for those looking for a syncing solution?

Keep in mind that Money 4 syncs only with Money for iPhone v2.x or later.

I see there isn’t currently an iPad version on the AppStore and of course my iPad doesn’t sync since I upgraded to Money 4.
Is a new iPad version planned or will you be supporting iPhone/iPod only?

I have a problem syncing my iPhone App (v.2.2.1) with the Desktop Version (v.4.1.1).
I have seleced the sychronizing option on my iPhone, the 4 digits are shown. But when I start the desktop version of money, my iPhone is not shown anywhere. It does not matter if I start money on my iPhone or the desktop first.
Do you have any idea what I can do to sync my iPhone? I really like your application, it would be even better if I could log all my expenses during the day and then only synchronize them.
