Answer to your prayers: Money for iPhone
You’ve been waiting for it for too long now. You’ve been bombing us with your inquiries and pleas and darn, you did it. We have something new for you. Not right now, of course, because we all know how the story goes with teasers (imagine a deep and husky man’s voice):
It is classy. It is smart. In a world of complications, it was created to make your life easier. This July, it will move to your iPhone totally free of charge. Get ready for the iPhone application of the year—Jumsoft Money!
Those of you who have been using Money for some time now know that this is a ridiculously easy-to-use yet very effective application for managing your finances. With Money, you can track transactions to and from your wallet, bank accounts, or share trading accounts. You can make budget plans and monitor your success in following them. You can manage your bills and generate reports of your income and expenses. Very soon you will be able to do all of this on the go using your iPhone.
Money for iPhone will have the features that thousands of people love in Money. You will be able to create different types of accounts for your cash, bank accounts, credit cards, and investments to keep track of transactions to, from, and among them. Budget Monitor will help you stick to your carefully planned budget, while the Bills section will remind you of amounts due to be paid. You will even have a report capability in your iPhone so that you have a good idea of what you spent yesterday, last month, or last year. All of this, of course, will be combined with a classy design and completely free.
To run Money on your iPhone, you will need the brand new iPhone OS 3.0, which will be released as a free software update on June 17th. Naturally, you will be able to synchronize Money on your iPhone with your Mac. To maximize your security, Money for iPhone also will feature the ability to set a pass code, just in case you have some spending to hide from your significant other.
Having spilled so much about our next release, all we have left to do is suggest that you sit back, relax, and wait for July. Hey, we might even release it sooner if you get really lucky!

Great news! Looks wonderful.
Definitely will be trying out. Not sure if I will be using it constantly though, since I’m not very fond of idea of carrying all my money records on a cell phone.
Will it work on iPod Touch?
Yes, it will work on iPod Touch too. (if iPhone OS 3.0 will be installed on it).
It looks like it will be a great companion to the desktop app. Thank you for sharing it with us early.
I’m wondering if the Category screen just lists Categories, or if clicking one shows you this month’s expenses in that Category? It looks like you access it from Budgets; so I’m thinking the latter?
If you access this list from Settings tab, then you will be able to add new/edit existing categories.
But also you will be able to access the same list from Budget tab (when adding Budget items, that needs some category to be set), Accounts tab (when setting categories to transactions).
So, clicking on the category will not show month’s expenses for it (at least not in the first version). You’ll have to create report to see such information.
Thanks Martynas. That makes sense to me.
This is what I have been waiting for, I almost considered to look for a different finance app. Good thing that cha chin isn’t really for anybody the US consumer. Now I have no reason to look any further because I really like the money app. Syncing of course is the killer feature. If it works as good as the desktop version I am completely happy I waited for you guys.
Are there different reports available on the iPhone version? I see the + button the pie chart example.
Hello Brad,
Likely in the first version there will be only Spending By Category report. More is planned for the future versions.
Of course you will be able to create multiple reports (for example one report for each account).
Hi there,
I tried Money before but then i stopped using it because I realize when tracking investment, you can only track shareprice up to 2 decimal places instead of 4.
Can you set this somewhere or is that fixed because thats a dealbreaker for me. I wont be able to track my investment correctly.
Thanks
Hello Ronald,
Thanks for your feedback. Currently it is not possible. This will be available in the next update that is planned this week.
Its July 2nd. When will the iphone app be out?
Sorry for the delay. It will be released soon. We are already testing on actual iPhones, just some speed and sync issues needs to be solved.
Still no news from Jumsoft? I was hoping to take my ipod with the money app on vacation. I guess that is not going to happen. Release date is rather August then July right?
We hope to submit Money to Apple next week. (Or in the worst case a week after that).
Thanks Martynas for the update. I am really looking forward to the Money iPhone App!
Yeah me too even after my vacation.
Will the iPhone version support multi-currencies and conversion between accounts?
Hello aerofreeze,
First version will not support multi-currencies (you only will be able to choose what currency to use). Implementing multi-currency is in our future plans.
Hi Jumsoft,
I’m thinking about buying Money for MAC but now am wondering if I would be just fine with the free iPhone version? What would make me want both?
Thanks and can’t wait to try it out.
Hello Marc-Andre,
I suggest you download and try it yourself after it appears in App Store to see if iPhone.app is enough for your needs. Desktop Money is more powerful, so everything depends on your needs.
There is 15 days desktop Money free trial, so you can download and try it also.
Hi Martynas,
Very excited about this. Any update on when you will submitting the app to the Apple store?
Cheers,
Rhonda
We plan to do it this Thursday.
Sorry for keeping you waiting.
cool… looking forward to it.
sounds great …… waiting for it …..
(btw : today is friday, or did Martynas mean friday next month ?)
Has this been released yet? If no, when??
We submitted Money for iPhone to Apple today. Now we are waiting for their approval.
Ok, I was going to buy cha-ching, but I think I’ll wait to see Money iphone live.
I had been looking forward to this. I schedule my transactions up to two months in advance to enable me to ascertain what is liable to be left over by next pay check. Consequently the balance showing on the iphone is not my balance for that day. So after some initial excitement it is not really going to work for me. Also need an ability to archive old transactions whilst not losing the balance. I have over 700 transactions which after time will grow and slow down the program.
I have just starting using the iphone app and syncing is great apart from one of my accounts is showing an incorrect balance on the iphone. Have tried re-installing the iphone app and still shows incorrect balance after sync. Only on the one account that my bills are set to come out of. Any ideas?
Have just realised that the iphone app is doubling up on all transcations in one of my accounts, is this a known issue? Is there a fix or suggestions please? apart from this I am very impressed.
Simon, please check email. I need more info to locate the problem.
Hi
Money on iPhone seems very good, but what about us PC users, can you please think about our “backup” needs. Any plans for a PC version of Money or at least a means of “Backup/Restore”.
Thanks Paul
Paul,
Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, currently we create our products for Mac OSX and iPhone OS only. Windows version is not in our nearest future plans.
I need a list of categories to put into iPhone App and have a nice icons. I have not desktop version Yet. Have anyone list like that?
Gomana, thanks for using our products. And here is the list of categories that have icons:
Automobile
Bank Charges
Bills
Donations
Clothing
Education
Electronics
Food
Gifts
Healthcare
Household
Investment Income
Insurance
Job Expenses
Leisure
Loan
Miscellaneous
Other Income
Personal Care
Pet Care
Retirement Income
Taxes
Utilities
Vacation
Wages and Salary
I have the iPhone app and I think there are a few more things that need to be added to the guide. Most of the features are easy to use, but what I would especially like to know is how the Pie chart works… it doesn’t seem to be displaying my expenditures at all. Does it only display the default categories that come with the app? It’s funny that the categories are not listed for users to select and edit.
It’s odd that we would have to guess what categories come with icons, when we really should be able to assign icons to the categories. I find that when I input a Subname for the category, the icon disappears. Why is that?
Isobel,
Thanks for your feedback.
Regarding reports – there is one known issue – the report does not show any data if “All” accounts are selected. An update will be soon submitted to Apple. So the workaround for the current version I can suggest – selecting not all, but only some accounts (at least leave one not selected or create one new “fake” account and don’t include it into reports calculations).
iPhone app was made firstly as addition to the Jumsoft Money for Mac, so when you sync Money for iPhone and Money for Mac – default categories from the Mac version are being transfered to iPhone version. But if you use iPhone version only, you have to create categories manually.
Only master categories – the one that does not have sub-name – shows icons in the Categories section. Sub-categories, when used in transaction view, use parent category’s (the one that has the same name, but no sub-name) image.
Hi,
I’m Joe and i have both the mac and the iphone version of Money, it is a very amazing app.
There are under development some improvements for the iPhone version?
Because there are still some problems with displaying budgets or reports.
Thanks
Hello Joe,
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, iPhone app is not perfect and we are aware that some features need improvements and bug fixes. We are working on it.
Hello,
I sent some screenshots “info@jumsoft.com”. After saving the datafile, making a backup (as well to MobileMe) and synchronizing with my iPhone I find a lot of transactions where all of a sudden the category is “(null)” (and the amount of the transaction is zero) and transfers from 1 account to another are suddenly splits with the transfer duplicated (so I transferred the double of the initial amount).
I have to re-enter all the transactions manually again because edits to the category (null) are not accepted and changes to the amount are not accepted by Money.
This brings me in a nasty situation because I have both private as company finances in Money. I have to go through all the transaction again to ensure that for tax and other reasons everything is perfect. Not quite a pleasant job (transactions of 2 years).
Peter,
Please check your email – I wrote an answer to your email.
Shortly about the problem – If you recently upgraded your OSX version from Leopard to Snow Leopard, some sync history data might got corrupted. This should be fixed by performing “fresh sync” – please check your email for the steps that needs to be done.
Do you plan to add the functionality to allow us to reconcile an account/transactions from the iphone app?
If there is a way to do this… I haven’t found it yet!
Thanks
Hello Rich,
Reconciling is not implemented in the current Money for iPhone version. Added to the users wish list.
Hello,
I like your app very much. It is very flexible and beautiful. But I found that in the report function, I can only choose all or one category. Is it possible to choose multiple categories? And I am a PC user, can I back up the data to my computer (like text version)?
Thank you very much!
Hello Connie,
Yes, currently you can choose only 1 or all categories in the reports. We will improve this in one of the the future updates.
And we create our applications for Mac OSX and iPhone OS (that is similar to OSX). So, there is no Jumsoft Money for Windows.
Thank you for your prompt reply. Can I suggest Money to export a simple text file containing the data and send to email? Then it doesn’t require Jumsoft Money for Windows.
Thanks for your suggestion. Added to the users wish list.
What improvements you may introduce in your next version? You plan to correct the errors in the budget view.
Thanks
Hello Joe,
Please check your email and write me what errors in the budget view do you have in mind.
When will you add multiple currencies to the iphone app?
Hello Bo,
Multiple currencies will be implemented in Money for iPhone 2.0 version, that will be released later this year.
Hi.
Can’t sync the iPhone version with the desktop one. Tried various configurations such as connecting to the same external network on both devices or creating a network on the laptop where the desktop version is installed, the “devices” tab just doesn’t appear in the “listbar” and thus nothing happens on the desktop when I try to “set a new library” and see a pass-code on the iPhone. Please write a more detailed description as to how this is supposed to work in Money’s help file and explain to me why it might not be functioning on my system. Wi-fi on both devices works properly.
P.S Synchronization through cable and bluetooth would be highly appreciated as options.
Hi Sensei,
Thanks for your feedback.
Firstly, are you using the latest versions – Money for iPhone 1.2.1 and Money for Mac 3.4.9?
We also would like to implement synchronization through cable and/or bluetooth, but currently Apple does not provide tools for 3rd part applications to do that.
Great app and I love it.
I am a PC user could you please add a way to backup the data and restoring it as requested by Paul(32). With this addition it becomes the best apps I have used.
Hello Siby,
Thanks for using our products. Unfortunately as I mentioned Windows version is not in our future plans.
The only option I can suggest: afaik, iTunes makes backup of iPhone applications data to some backup folder during each sync, so you can make backup of this folder once in awhile and later restore if needed. Here you can find some more info on this:

Hi, nice work on the iphone app!
Is there a way to change the name of a main category in the app but maintain the good looking icons ?
Because when I edit them (to translate to my language) they transform into the default icon (puzzle)
Thanks
Pedro
Hello Pedro,
Thanks for using our products.
The current Money for iPhone version is not prepared for the localizations and icons fro categories are assigned based on their names. (You can find the complete list of the categories names that have custom icons some comments above). And if Money cannot find an icon for the new name you set, it will use the default one (puzzle) for them.
Hi,
This was just what I was looking for. Works great.
Only feedback I have would be to have customizable totals included on the accounts page and reports.
Its tricky when you have several accounts and just want an overall total of credit/savings/etc accounts.
Also, the ability to input credit limits and therefore available credit and subsequent totals would be great
Thanks again
Thanks for your feedback. We will consider your suggestions for the future versions.
Thank you for creating Money for the iPhone. I would like to add to the other requests listed here and ask that you please offer a way for PC users to backup/restore data inputted to the iPhone. It’s not necessary to create a PC version of Money but perhaps the ability to export a data file from the iPhone that can be used to restore as well. Please let us know if there is any intention of adding this feature in a future update. Thanks.
Hello R.,
Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately we create applications for Mac OSX and iPhone only. We consider this in the future, but currently we are busy with other projects and features, so I cannot promise this any time soon.
Hi Folks!
Great app!
Thank you very much.
I too am a Windows user and would very much like to be able to sync with a desktop version or at least backup somehow on Windows XP.
I know you only make OSX software but a lot of us Windows folks would love to give you money too!
Cheers,
James
